The Quality of Care and Implementation Science subgroups of the Child Health Task Force co-hosted a webinar to learn about the Essential Emergency and Critical Care (EECC) approach and lessons from across sub-Saharan Africa. Throughout the world, critical illness is common in children and adults. Providing critically ill patients with good quality care is a priority for health systems, and yet has been under-prioritized. A newly developed initiative, the Essential Emergency and Critical Care (EECC) approach, focuses on the first-line, most fundamental and cost-effective care for all wards and units in all hospitals. Evidence is growing that EECC can be highly effective and cost-effective and has the potential to save many lives. In this webinar, presenters discussed the approach, the readiness of hospitals in Tanzania, Kenya and Malawi to provide care for critically ill patients, and the initiatives ongoing in Tanzania.
