Child Survival Action (CSA) 77th World Health Assembly Luncheon

On May 26, Dr. Austin Demby, Sierra Leone Minister of Health and Vice-Chairman of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa, hosted African leaders from Burkina Faso, Guinea, Chad, Liberia, Madagascar, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, South Sudan, and Somalia in a World Health Assembly side event, Health Minister Discussion on Child Survival Action. The event highlighted the critical need for the CSA initiative while also providing the opportunity for ministers to discuss similar challenges across Africa. This event summary captures the key takeaways and highlights from the luncheon.

Estimating needs of non-malaria commodities for Integrated Community Case Management (iCCM)

A quantification tool to help countries estimate their needs in non-malaria commodities and the gap that Global Fund could potentially fund. The tool facilitates completion of the GF non-malaria iCCM gap tables required as part of the funding request to Global Fund.

The tool is an Excel spreadsheet which enables the user to estimate the forecast and procurement requirements for amoxicillin to treat pneumonia cases, as well as for ORS and zinc sulfate to treat diarrhea cases in children 2-59 months at the community level, using the morbidity method of quantification.
