This BMJ Global Health article examines the role of traditional healers in care seeking and case management for childhood illness and malnutrition in Tshopo Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The findings imply that traditional healers may be acting as de facto CHWs in many settings and that policymakers should engage with and consider this group of health workers when planning child health services.
