Save the Children's fifth annual Childhood Report compares data from the End of Childhood Index which assesses hardships faced by children across 186 countries. Save the Children believes that every child has a right to childhood, as defined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The End of Childhood Index tracks "childhood enders," including events such as a child dies, malnutrition permanently impairs a child's development, a child leaves or fails to enter school, a child begins work life, a child marries, a child has a child, and a child is a victim of extreme violence. This report considers COVID-19 as an exacerbating factor to many of the "childhood enders" identified.
